What comes, goes. (Wat kënnt, dat geet.)
This project was developed by SCRIPT in collaboration with Omega 90 to break taboos surrounding end-of-life issues. This topic is not taken lightly, neither in our schools nor in people’s everyday lives: nobody wants to think about it, nobody wants to talk about it. Like anything else we do not understand, death arouses fears that grow when we do not talk about them.
The aim of this course is for pupils to explore topics such as end-of-life care, death and grief in a safe environment. The information contributes to knowledge and understanding and helps to reduce fears, whilst fostering solidarity and compassion at the same time.
The project consists of two lessons during which pupils are introduced to the topic in a playful way through short films, games, worksheets, role-plays, discussions, etc. They are encouraged to share their experiences, concerns and, above all, their questions about the end of life. Following this introduction, each teacher is free to explore the topic in greater depth, based on the pupils’ interests and questions.
As this topic touches us on a deep emotional level, teachers are not necessarily superior to pupils, in terms of knowledge and expertise, but are just as much a part of the process as their pupils.
